Free, public education can absolutely educate every single child to the highest standards, no matter their ability, neurodevelopment spectrum, immigration status, race, socioeconomic status or gender identification.
Indeed, it is imperative, as the stakes are higher than they have ever before been.
As a neuroscientist, I know with absolute certainty, every brain is capable of mastery. While each learner needs individualized education, we are all better prepared to thrive in this world if we are both challenged and inspired.
Critical and creative thinkers are fostered in a learning environment that provides relationships, rigor, and relevancy to each and every student.
When we accommodate all, we begin to create a society that values sustainability over profit, fairness over luck, and ours over mine.
This is possible. Let’s make it happen together.
